Locust Attack Alert in Telangana State: As per the Agriculture secretary B. Janardhan Reddy, swarms of locusts have just reached Amaravati region in Maharashtra and authorities there were attempting to control the further spread of the swarms.

The Locust Warning Center in Jodhpur, when reached, had informed Telangana authorities that there are swarms of locusts may reach the Telangana state if the authorities in Maharashtra neglected to control their movement.

The Rajasthan authorities likewise demonstrated that swarms of locusts were probably to cover 12 to 15 km in an hour and cause serious misfortune to standing harvests by sitting on close by trees.

After a gathering with entomology division researchers of the PJTS Agriculture University, and the Central Integrated Pest Management Center and National Institute of Plant Health Management, Agriculture secretary Mr Janardhan Reddy cautioned the District administrations of Adilabad, Kumram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nizamabad, Kamareddy, Nirmal and Jayashankar Bhupalapally areas circumscribing Maharashtra state about the locust swarms assault.

However, they are also advised to take Locust management practices in order to avoid the severe losses caused due to the swarms of Locust.

Administrations of the seven districts were approached to frame advisory groups and committees with researchers and authorities of agriculture offices and keep essential insecticide sprays to manage the insect spread. Forming village level advisory committee was additionally recommended to take countermeasures quickly to control the swarms of locust attack.
